In the realm of luxury fashion, few names shine bright, one being Gaurav Khanijo, the celebrated designer renowned for his exquisite menswear creations. When Gaurav approached us just a week before the launch of his new Kolkata store, we knew we had to act swiftly to create a show-stopping installation that would elevate his store’s ambiance and reflect his design aesthetic. Our team sprang into action, visiting the store to absorb its atmosphere and understand Gaurav’s vision.
Inspired by Gaurav’s menswear designs, we rapidly ideated several sketches that would bring a spark to the store’s interior. Our focus was on creating an immersive experience that would engage customers and showcase Gaurav’s brand ethos. After careful consideration, we proposed a stunning wall installation that would extend towards the ceiling, leveraging the interplay of light and shadow to create depth and visual interest. This concept resonated with Gaurav, and we collaboratively refined the design to create a breathtaking, one-of-a-kind piece.
The final design featured an oversized, intricately crafted men’s torso positioned at the corner of the wall, suspended from the ceiling. The pièce de résistance was the organic, wing-like forms emerging from the torso’s head, which appeared to touch the ceiling, symbolizing the profound connection between the mind and soul. This majestic installation was painstakingly designed, constructed, and executed within a remarkably short timeframe of just one week, using rattan as the primary material.
To achieve the desired organic forms, we employed an 18mm frame, which provided the necessary structural support. The frame was then beautifully covered with 8mm rattan reeds, carefully woven to create a seamless, natural-looking surface. As the light danced across the rattan reeds, it cast intricate shadows, further accentuating the installation’s organic, free-flowing design. The result was a truly awe-inspiring piece that not only reflected Gaurav’s design philosophy but also added a touch of magic to his store’s ambiance.
Our team’s dedication, creativity, and expertise came together to deliver a world-class installation that exceeded Gaurav’s expectations. As the store launched, the rattan torso installation became an instant showstopper, captivating the attention of all who entered. By combining innovative design, exceptional craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of Gaurav’s brand essence, we created a truly unforgettable experience that continues to inspire and delight all who visit the store.
